Oh my goodness things have been busy for the last seven days! The phone seems to be ringing off the hook with people and projects… We got some great news about two different major projects that will be starting in September! Our large project in East Texas is moving right along and this week we are getting liner into the beds and next week we will set fish tanks and begin running plumbing. Stay tuned over the next few weeks as we bring you more information about the “Largest Personal Aquaponic System in the World.” And, in other news, we have finalized the design for our next system here at the shop. This will be the first in a series of larger, “commercial” ready systems that will be available from Green Phoenix Farms. This series will eventually be composed of four distinct systems: a 500 sq ft, 1000 sq ft, 2000 sq ft, and 3000 sq ft. Each of these systems will be ready to run as designed, or can be customized according to the goals of the client. Next week, we will begin construction on the 500 sq ft system – this will fit into a 20′ x 50′ ground space, and will be able to produce a significant quantity of food for personal use or sale.
Please don’t forget about our upcoming Two-Day Small Scale Aquaponic Seminar (August 9-10) , where you can learn all about Aquaponics and how to build/operate your own system efficiently and effectively. If you are interested, but not sure if you want to take the plunge yet – why don’t you plan on coming out to our FREE TOUR TUESDAY. These evenings (from 6:30-7:30 every Tuesday) are specifically designed for individuals who want a way to easily and quickly learn a little bit more about Aquaponics. We would love to see you at a future FREE AQUAPONIC INTRODUCTIONS and TOUR — Click HERE for more information.
Now, we are still waiting on some of our seedlings to be ready for transplant, so this week’s harvest is a bit “lighter” than the past few, but we are still getting some great food! If you would like to catch up, you can read about our Week 8 harvest (HERE) and our Week 9 harvest (HERE).
Cherry Tomatoes (5) with a total weight of 1.0 ounce; Ichiban Eggplants (2) with a total weight of 6.6ounces; Three cucumbers a total weight of two pounds and 3.1 ounces; One Yellow Beefsteak Tomato at 3.6 ounces; Four Yellow Bell Peppers with a total weight of 5.5 ounces; Seven pods of Clemson Spineless Okra at 8.2 ounces; Two Cayenne Peppers at 0.5 ounces; and three Yellow Crookneck Squash with a total weight of 7.2 ounces.
So to summarize this week’s growth, we were able to harvest a total of 27 items with a combined weight of 4.2 pounds. That means that since we planted these systems ten (10) weeks ago, we have harvested over THIRTY (30) POUNDS of food from only 80 square feet of growing space. This translates to 3/8 of a pound of food per square foot!
Please stay in touch with us as we see what these systems can do over the rest of the summer and through the remainder of the year!
